Share Your Views: Clancarty Road School Safety Scheme

We would like your views on our plans to make Clancarty Road safer, especially for children who attend Ecole Marie D’Orilac (primary school).

The school told us they were concerned about the safety of children and parents during drop off and pick up times. This is due to the narrow pavement causing overcrowding and from parents trying to park directly outside the school’s three entrances at peak times. The school was also concerned about speeding.

To address these issues, we’re proposing making the following changes:

  • Widening the footway outside the school
  • Repositioning the two raised pedestrian crossing points closer to the entrances of the school, where most parents and children want to cross the road. This level surface crossing will help reduce the pedestrian congestion outside the school entrances and has a traffic calming effect
  • Extending the “School Keep Clear” markings to keep the are outside the school free from parked vehicles during drop off and pick up times
  • Installing 12 new cycle stands to encourage parents and children to cycle to school, rather than using a car
  • Installing three new 20mph roundel markings to remind motorists of the speed limit.

Why We Are Consulting

To widen the pavement in front of the school, we’ll have to remove three pay & display parking spaces. We’d like your views on whether the improved safety outweighs the loss of parking.

What Happens Next

Based on your feedback, we’ll decide whether or not to proceed with the proposals
