Closed 22 Dec 2021

Opened 1 Dec 2021

Overview

We would like your views on our proposal to improve road safety for pupils and parents at Wendell Park Primary School in Cobbold Road, Shepherds Bush.

These works are part of our new Healthy School Streets programme that we’ve launched to help schools in areas of poor air quality and to work towards the council’s pledge to make Hammersmith & Fulham the greenest borough in the country.

What are the proposed changes?

The proposed scheme includes the following changes:

  • Install two new raised tables to slow traffic and pencil bollards across scheme to signify school area
  • Paint new ‘Slow’, ‘20mph’ and update ‘School Keep Clear’ markings on the road to remind drivers of the speed limit
  • Install two new footway buildouts with greening at entrances to Stronsa Road and Lefroy Road. Option to have planting at either end of buildout or along length of buildout
  • Install new footway buildout to west of main entrance with cycle parking and greening
    1. A second option is to remove existing informal crossing to east of main entrance and install additional new footway buildout with greening (as shown on option 2 plan)
  • Loss of approx. 8 parking bays (3 in Stronsa Road, 3 in Lefroy Road, and 2 in Cobbold Road)

What are the benefits?

The footway buildouts will create extra space at each of the entrances to ease congestion at drop-off/pick-up times. They will also prevent cars from parking in the bays nearest school entrances reducing the likelihood of pupils being injured as drivers will not be able to use the bays. new raised tabled and pencil bollards will help to define the area around the school, with 20mph markings reminding drivers of the speed limit.

The buildouts will all include greening to help form a barrier between pupils/parents and vehicle emissions and create a more pleasant environment. New cycle storage facilities will be provided outside the main entrance to help promote active travel.

When will the work be carried out?

Following a positive consultation, the works are planned to start in early 2022.
